Before diving into setup, it’s important to understand why many people choose Ledger:

Ledger stores your private keys offline in a secure chip, isolated from your internet-connected computer or phone. Private keys never leave the device.

Open your web browser.

Choose your platform: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or iOS.
Download and install the application.

When you receive your Ledger device:

5.2 Power On

Once your Ledger device is initialized:
Open Ledger Live on your computer or phone.
Connect and unlock your Ledger device with your PIN.
In Ledger Live, go to the Manager tab.
Ledger Live will ask permission on the device—approve it.
You will see a list of cryptocurrency apps.
Click Install next to the coins you want to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
You must install an app for each coin or token type you want to manage in Ledger Live.
After installing apps:

Copy the address and share it with the sender.
Always verify the address on the device screen—this ensures malware isn’t showing a fake address on your computer.

To send:
Go to the Accounts tab.
Select the account holding the funds.
Click Send.
Enter the recipient address and amount.
Confirm the details.
Approve the transaction on your Ledger device.
Your transaction is signed securely on the device and broadcast through Ledger Live.
Ledger Live displays a dashboard showing:
Total portfolio value
Values of individual assets
Recent transactions
9.2 Buy Crypto
Ledger Live includes integrations with third-party providers to purchase crypto with fiat. Follow the in-app instructions to use these services.
9.3 Swap Crypto
Swap feature lets you exchange one cryptocurrency for another directly inside Ledger Live. Note that fees may apply from partners facilitating the swap.
9.4 Staking
Ledger Live supports staking for some assets (e.g., Tezos, Cardano). Staking allows you to earn rewards while keeping assets securely on your device.
Security is critical. Ledger periodically releases firmware updates for devices and software updates for Ledger Live.

Ledger Live will show an update prompt when available.
